I was employed by ECOT for 5 years. I was excited to make a difference in students’ livesĀ and still be home raising my 3 boys. At the beginning, I loved what I was doing, but once I realized ECOT cared more about money than its pupils and teachers, I had to resign. ECOT viewed students as “customers” and teachers were suppose to make them happy. Making students “happy” meant we graded “easily” sometimes giving them passing grades just for turning in an assignment regardless of the quality. In addition, students hardly attended the non-mandated class sessions where teachers would teach the curriculum. As long as students logged on for a few seconds, they were counted as attending school. These are just a few of the disappointing experiences I had being an online teacher.
